The Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Pro Late Models May 10th & 17th !!!!

Apple Grove, WV. May 12, 2008~ Heavy rains canceled racing at most of our local tracks on Friday night May 9th but Saturday night May 10th was clear sailing in the Mountain State.

At Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV. Shane “Dog” Hitt of Buckhannon, WV got a career first feature win in the 'Litman Excavating' KoM Pro Late Model main in his GMPP 604 Powered #2 Rocket. Hitt breathed life into his nickname by 'dogging' “The Roof Surfer” Joel Prosser also in a GMPP 604 powered Rocket, for the lead at every turn of the first 13 circuits before muscling the #77 of Prosser out of the groove to take the lead. 9th place starting “King” Sonny Conley in his #1x1 PBM Iron Outlaw I powered Lazer was charging hard, arriving at the lead duo's spoilers at the same time, then taking the lead on lap 18 before Hitt powered back around the high side to regain the point.

Conley and Hitt flashed under the checkered flags the final time, with Hitt's 'Petty Oil Field Service/ Hitt Enterprises' #2 narrowly turning the '07 Suddenlink AMRA KoM National Champion “King” Conley back to get a career first win at 'the Bullring'. Qualifying heat winners Prosser and Jim Quaigg followed with Jim Cochran rounding out the top 5 in the division's most entertaining race of the season.

I-77 Raceway Park ran their 1st Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Pro Late Model event of 2008. Cars from WV, OH, and KY competed in the event as “The Racin’ Mason” Jeff Maxwell showed the way to victory lane in the #04 Pro Power Performance Engines Powered Rocket after also winning his heat race. “Bad” Brad Jarrell was also bad fast in the #10 Rayburn as he made several attempts for the lead and briefly succeeded before settling into 2nd. The #481 of Terry Styer, Jr. squeezed by heat race #1 winner “Haulin” Chris Holley in the #23 Mastersbilt to take 3rd. #25 Dewey Raynes rounded out the top 5.

Once again all 4 weekly sanctioned Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains tracks are scheduled to run this weekend May 16th and 17th. Elkins Motor Speedway and Beckley Motor Speedway will send thunder thru the mountains on Friday night while Tyler County Speedway and I-77 Raceway Park bring the lightning on Saturday night.

Apple Grove, WV. May 7, 2008~ Aaron "The Baron" Barley in his Ford powered #28 Rocket and T J Salango in the #18 Pro Power Performance powered Rocket put on a show in the Suddenlink AMRA KOM Pro Late division on Friday night at Beckley Motor Speedway with the duo splitting the lap cars at the flag stand twice with Barley taking he lead and Salango running into the lapped traffic ending his chance for the win. Barley backed up his Elkins win last week with his first Suddenlink AMRA KOM Pro Late win at Beckley of the 2008 season. #2 GMPP 604 powered Rocket of Shane Hitt was 2nd, "The "Racin' Mason" Jeff Maxwell in his Pro Power Performance powered #04 Rocket was 3rd, "Bad" Brad Jarrell in his home built Chevy powered #10 Rayburn raced his way to a well earned 4th place finish, and T J Salango ended up 5th after making a sacrificial spin to avoid hitting a lapped car while dueling with "The Baron" for the lead.

"King Conley" lead green to checkered in the 'Litman Excavating' KoM Pro Late Model feature in the PBM Iron Outlaw I powered 1x1 Lazer.        The Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Iron Outlaws!!

Apple Grove, WV. April 28, 2008~ The Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountain Iron Outlaws will be out in full force this weekend. Friday night Beckley Motor Speedway will open the 2008 season and Saturday night Tyler County Speedway continues their season while I-77 Raceway Park will be kicking their 2008 season off on Saturday Night in Fairplain, WV.

“We’re expecting a big turn out,” Beckley Race Director Donnie Mercer stated, ”There have been a lot of rumors floating around but Beckley is opening and will run on Friday nights.”  Elkins Motor Speedway will give the KoM gang the night off as they host the IRS Late Models. So Beckley will be the place to be on Friday night for KoM drivers looking to get their weekly points.

This past Friday night, Beckley Motor Speedway regular, 18 year old Aaron “The Baron” Barley, won his first Suddenlink AMRA KoM Iron Outlaw event of 2008 at Elkins Motor Speedway. Aaron also drives a Rocket chassis powered by a steel block Ford engine.

The Roof Surfer, Joel Prosser, who finished 2nd in the national points in 2007 by a mere 5 points, visited the winners circle last Saturday at Tyler County Speedway, winning his first event of 2008 in the Suddenlink KoM Iron Outlaws piloting a GMPP 604 powered Rocket. New KoM member Zach Dohm was 2nd.

The PBM Iron Outlaw engines had another good week with 2 third place finishes, one at Elkins Motor Speedway and one at Tyler County Speedway, for “King” Sonny Conley” in the 1x1 Lazer powered by a PBM Iron Outlaw I. Mike Griffin in the #11 Barry Wright powered by a PBM Iron Outlaw II brought home a 5th place finish.

“We’re very excited about the PBM Iron Outlaw Engine program,” explained series Director Rocky Estep. “We’re still in a fine tuning phase with the program but we are progressing nicely. We have a few more adjustments to make and we’ll have these engines finalized.”

Series Technical Director, Jimmy Midkiff, stated, ”We’ve been impressed with our drivers so far this year. They have been very courteous and have done well complying to the rules. We've had some tech equipment on back order for the past couple months and finally got it in this week. So we will be able to check the engines somewhat more stringently than before but we're confident the majority are running within the rules."

Go to www.KOMWRS.com for rules and info. All our tracks are linked to the site. Be sure to check schedules and visit a Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains sanctioned track near you as often as possible.

I-77 and Obrion Running 358 Mods

We are introducing a new class called the “358 Modifieds” in 2008. We are working in conjunction with Obrion Oval Speedway on this project. The class is designed to utilize a used Modified chassis, spec tires, and limited engines to make another affordable class for folks to race in. We will run the class on a limited schedule in 2008 with the plan being to run the class every week in 2009.  Obrion will run them full time this year.

“With the escalating cost of competition these days combined with rising fuel costs and the increasing unavailability of suitable OEM chassis, we are faced with the challenge of keeping affordable entry and intermediate level classes on the track while maintaining safety requirements and cost restraints.,” explained Suddenlink King of the Mountains Series Director, Rocky Estep.  “The 358 Mods provide a very viable option for many racers. With used Mod chassis being cheap and plentiful and the affordability of our engine options, particularly the PBM Iron Outlaw I, we expect to see car counts reach fairly lofty numbers in a relatively short period of time.”

For rules for the class go to www.komwrs.com.

PBM Iron Outlaw Engines

The PBM Iron Outlaw Engine program is another cost saver program we are very excited about. These engines are comparable in price and performance to the GMPP 602 and 604 engines but use more durable parts and are serviced on a local level. Allowing our local engine builders and parts suppliers to stay involved with our local racing programs is of utmost importance to the future of our sport.

The PBM kits are also designed to fit directly into the GMPP 602 and 604 with the use of a 2 piece rear main seal adapter. This way regardless of what GMPP decides to do with their crate program, we can continue to enjoy the wonderful benefits of budget racing and service our engines at the local level: Simultaneously maintaining the integrity  of a sealed engine program using a system far superior to any seals we’ve seen previously.

The PBM Iron Outlaw II visited victory lane in it’s 1st ever heat race at Tyler County Speedway as “The Terminator” Mike Griffin brought the #11 Barry Wright to victory and backed it up with a 2nd in the feature.  “2007 King of the Mountains” Sonny Conley brought home a pair of 3rd place finishes with the PBM Iron Outlaw I in the #1x1 Lazer.

“Give us a few weeks to figure out the set up on this new car,” explained Conley, “then we’ll see where we’re at. We’ve made several changes all at once for this year and we need time to get them tuned in. We‘ll take 3rd place for now but 1st place is what we’re here for .”

The PBM engines can be purchased from any PBM dealer. Official Suddenlink King of the Mountains suppliers include, GCP Engines 606-928-3439, Pro Power Performance 304-253-6914, Watson Rupel Performance 740-838-6405, and Dave Poske’s Performance Parts 800-430-7223.

The Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Iron Outlaws

The Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series will be running at I-77 Raceway Park, as well as Tyler County Speedway, Elkins Motor Speedway, and Beckley Motor Speedway in 2008. Obrion Oval Speedway will also host the series on at least 1 occasion this year.

This is the most unified our area tracks have ever been.. We’ve witnessed our tracks actually looking out for one another by scheduling around each others special events and pairing up for 2 day and possibly 3 day events in 2008.

“This is Fantabulous!” Exclaimed series Director of Finance and I-77 Raceway Park General Manger, Shon Parsons. “Standardized rules in at least 2 classes saving our drivers money, a genuine friendly atmosphere between tracks, a great schedule of special events for our fans, this is what it is all about. This is why I am so proud to be a part of the KoM series.”

Our class utilizes Late Model chassis with Hoosier WRS-2-55 spec tires and featuring PBM Iron Outlaw Engines as well as the GMPP 602 and 604 crate engines. Weight and carburetor offsets are used to even up open steel motors so they may also be included.

We are also introducing the 358 Mod class using a Modified chassis, Hoosier Spec tires, and the PBM Iron Outlaw I Engine and GMPP 602 crate engine. Open motors are also allowed but limited to 358 Cubic inches and must weigh 2500 lbs. Must be steel heads and block. We are very excited by the feedback we have received to date concerning this class.

Go to www.KOMWRS.com  for more info. View the Suddenlink AMRA King of the Mountains Iron Outlaw Late Model special event schedule on our message board.

Be sure to visit us at I-77 Raceway Park in your travels and have a great 2008!
