THE SUDDENLINK KoM LATE MODEL SERIES!

Apple Grove, WV.~ March 2, 2009- The economy has taken it’s toll on the entire country and WV. is no exception. Recent developments have prompted the Steel Block Mafia and the Suddenlink King of the Mountains Iron Outlaws to join forces! After several days of deliberation, “King Pin”, Fast” Freddie Carpenter, and Iron Outlaw mastermind, “Doc” Estep, have come to an agreement to combine their resources. Both are in the “Steel” business and looking to, shall we say, increase their constituents’ return on investment.

This development has led “Law Dawg“, Scott Estep, and  “The Reverend” , Brother Shon Parsons, who oversee the Speed Ranch at I-77 Raceway Park in WV, to coral this band of “Renegades” as their premier LATE MODEL class; posting a whopping $1000 reward for the capture of an Outlaw win on a weekly basis in 2009!

“This will make our racer’s investments proportional to their purse,” explained Reverend Parsons. “A race team might average a top 5 finish all year and possibly cover the cost of their engine or even the car. Although some of our cars are top dollar rides, we have several very competitive KoM Late Models that have less than $10,000 invested in the entire car. A couple of those drivers won several races last year against some very savvy competition, another the track championship. Not many Late Model classes today can honestly make that claim. The EXTREME MECHANICAL ADVANATGE (EMA) is removed.”

“In this economy, under the old Late Model rules, we were never going to be able to meet the needs of our drivers much less break even on the class as a track ,” stated “Law Dawg” Scott Estep. “Necessity is the mother of invention. Looking at our numbers and what others around the country in similar situations are doing, such as IMCA, Wissotta, and many others, the improvements we need to implement are quite obvious. The new LATE MODEL rules are a winning combination for the fans, drivers, and the track.”

The status quo changed dramatically over the past few weeks and required a new plan of action on very short notice. The KoM system is designed for just such emergencies. We also pride ourselves in keeping our local supporters included in what we do. As always, the KoM goal is to make racing more affordable and more competitive for more people. The rules to meet that goal have already been tried and tested.

The Iron Outlaw’s stable will bring it on at 2200 lbs. with the PBM Iron Outlaw I and GMPP 602 engines with 12 inch maximum spoiler heights. The PBM Iron Outlaw II and GMPP 604 engines will run at 2350 lbs. Spoiler height will be 8 inch maximum. These steeds will be shod with Hoosier Spec 35 and /or Spec WRS-2-55’s. ALL KoM spec tires are $129 each and NOBODY gets a tire deal on these tires.

This “arrangement” will require the Mafia’s heavy hitters to be at 2450 lbs on Hoosier Spec WRS-2-55 tires. They will need to add 50 lbs forward of the engine mid plate for aluminum heads. (still 2450 lbs) Spoiler requirements will be 8 inches maximum height.

Come join in the FUN in 2009 as the Suddenlink King of the Mountains LATE MODELS take the track. A complete set of rules will be posted ASAP at www.KOMWRS.com and www.racei77.com, Also, check out the latest offers from Suddenlink Communications at www.SUDDENLINK.com .

Suddenlink KoM PBM Iron Outlaw Engine Program

Apple Grove, WV- February 9,2009.~ The Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series once again is leading the way in the effort to make racing more affordable and more competitive in the Appalachian and Ohio Valley region. In 2008 KoM partnered with PBM to develop the PBM Iron Outlaw Engine Program as a means to provide a more inclusive alternative to the GMPP crate engines. The program not only serves as a back up system to the GMPP crates, it can be used in lieu of should economic pressures dictate.

Our goals for the program are, of course, to be affordable but also to include our local builders and parts suppliers who live, work, and support the tracks and racers, in our region; not to mention paying taxes and otherwise contributing to our communities. We strongly believe being as inclusive as possible while maintaining the integrity of the rules is the key to more folks being able to participate in our brand of FUN!

We also wanted the program to be comparable to the GMPP crate program in price and performance including a sealing program. As we all know, the GMPP sealing program has had it’s share of problems. KoM therefore opted to use a cup seal system which has a much lower possibility of being breeched or duplicated. Our security system has been further enhanced with the addition of the PBM/KoM stamped aluminum spec head in the PBM Iron Outlaw II kit.

Each PBM Iron Outlaw engine is sealed by a KoM official, not the builder, upon completion of build or rebuild. The seals, which are unique to KoM, are numbered and verified per engine and owner. The sealing numbers and engine info are posted as a link on the www.KOMWRS.com website under the “Crate Motors” page. Track techs can access the site and verify engine seal numbers.

The PBM Iron Outlaw I complete engine kit is $2665 and includes all brand new parts from intake to oil pan including the block. The PBM Iron Outlaw I is a GM engine fashioned after the GMPP 602. This engine is a steel block, 23 degree steel head, flat tappet cam engine,4130 steel rods, etc... Blue printed and balanced, as most competitive GMPP crates are, it will produce @380 HP at 5800 RPM and @397 Ft/lb torque at 3600 RPM

The PBM Iron Outlaw II complete engine kit is $3932.17 and also includes all new parts from intake to oil pan including the block. The PBM Iron Outlaw II is an aluminum PBM/KoM stamped spec head version with a 4340 forged steel crank and rods, fashioned after the GMPP 604. This engine, blue printed and balanced as most competitive GMPP crates are, will produce @430 HP at 6500 RPM and @415 ft/lb torque at 4600 RPM.

We also have a Ford version dubbed the PBM Iron Outlaw Boss and a Dodge version branded the PBM Iron Outlaw Magnum currently in development.

Another area that required attention was the cost of rebuilds. The PBM Iron Outlaw engines use parts that while comparable in performance are far more durable and affordable than their GMPP counterparts.

The PBM Iron Outlaw I Rebuild KIT which includes: pistons, rings, all bearings, timing chain kit, HV Oil Pump, 1.25 valve springs, gaskets, oil pick up tube, etc.. and the cost of resealing hardware, retails for $409.55.

The PBM Iron Outlaw II Rebuild Kit which includes: pistons, all bearings, timing chain kit, HV oil pump, 1.460 dual valve springs, gaskets, oil pump tube, etc. and the cost of resealing hardware, retails for $513.31.

Should the economic conditions dictate, a GMPP 602 can be converted to a PBM Iron Outlaw I using a conversion kit at $900.32. The GMPP 604 to PBM II conversion kit is a little more with the aluminum heads at $1470.70  The same kits can be used to convert a stock 350 Chevy to a PBM Iron Outlaw I or II. There after, these would be considered as PBM Iron Outlaw engines by rule and utilize the appropriate rebuild kits.

“We are very pleased with the progress of the PBM Iron Outlaw program,” stated series Director Rocky Estep. “Considering the program is still in it’s infancy as engine programs go, we have made extremely remarkable progress in a very short period of time. We were pleasantly surprised by the program’s performance in 2008. PBM Iron Outlaw engines won 11 events in Late Model competition and 1 event in Modified competition plus the Suddenlink King of the Mountains National Championship. Garnish that with a string of heat race wins, a special event win, and zero engine failures and that’s one sweet dish.”

The PBM Iron Outlaw engines can be purchased in kit form or completely assembled  from any Suddenlink KoM authorized builder at special KoM pricing. These dealers include: Dave Poske’s Performance Parts, Watson Rupel Performance, GCP Engines, and Pro Power Performance. Contact info is posted at www.KOMWRS.com on the “:Crate Motor” page. Assembly costs will vary according to the completion stage of the build.
