Drivers from WV, OH, KY, VA, PA, NC, and TN are planning to attend. The Suddenlink KoM WRS Late Model Regional Championship presented by Dave Poske’s Performance Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire, and Hoosier Racing Tire Ohio Valley, is on the line as any of the top 6 drivers in the regional points have a legitimate shot at being crowned “King of the Mountains”! A heat race win combined with the feature win could produce a possible 110 points in this event. Thus making it mathematically impossible to forecast any of at least the top 10 regional points positions coming into this event.

7 time 2007 winner and points leader Sonny “The Hit Man” Conley leads 2nd place runner “The Roof Surfer” Joel Prosser by a mere 6 points and has posted 3 wins! Both of those racers are from Tyler County Speedway. Beckley Motor Speedway’s Jeff Maxwell, branded “The Racin’ Mason”, who got a late start in 2007 comes into this event in 3rd and has posted 7 wins of his own in Suddenlink KoM LM competition. The 2007 Suddenlink KoM WRS I-77 MSP Track Champion and 4 time winner, “The Under Dog” Keith Bills, who posted his Suddenlink KoM LM wins with a GMPP 602 Crate Engine is only 59 points out of 1st in the 4th position. “Champion” Chad Justice from Beckley Motor Speedway has made a steady climb all season and holds down 5th with a very consistent top 5 record and a victory in the win column in 2007. Tyler County Speedway’s Gary Knollinger Jr. also a consistent top 5 finisher is a mere 7 points behind him in 6th and is a dark horse to win the championship.

“We have everything from homebuilt engines to GMPP Crate Engines to professionally built Pro Power Performance engines running in the front of the pack in the 2007 with wins posted by all of the above in the Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series,” stated Series Regional Director, Rocky Estep, “Our goal is to make racing more affordable and more competitive for more people. Those results make it very obvious that we’ve got a good start on it.”

Who will be “KING OF THE MOUNTAINS“ ???!!!!  Come on out and see one of the best shows of the year at the Racefest World Championships at WV Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV this Friday and Saturday night September 14th and 15th. You’re gonna have a great time! We guarantee it!!!

The Racin’ Mason Puts Another Brick in the Wall At “The Madness“!

Apple Grove, WV. Aug.15,2007~“The Racin’ Mason“, Jeff Maxwell, puts another brick in his wall of victories at “The Madness” last Friday night at Beckley Motor Speedway. 21 Suddenlink King of the Mountains Late Models overtook the historical 3/8ths mile bullring. A very impressive 4 wide salute to the fans was an exciting send off to the $1000 to win 2nd Madness in the Mountains event presented by Allen and Son Construction of Oak Hill, WV.

Allen and Son Construction has already increased the ante for the 3rd Madness in the Mountains event in 2008 to $1500 to win!!! The Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series would like to thank Allen and Son Construction for their generous contribution. This kind of support is both rare and priceless to an up and coming series.

Added to the nights prizes were cash awards of $100 for winning the heat races which were sponsored by C. Adam Toney Tires, Pro Power Performance Engines of Beckley, and Sunoco Race Fuels. An additional $50 for the Hard Charger of the race was put up by C. Adam Toney Tires. “The Hit Man” Sonny Conley would pick up that award after early mechanical woes sidelined the #1x1 Lazer in his heat race. Conley started on the back row and rallied thru the field untouched for an impressive 8th place finish in the 30 lap feature. Again, the Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series would like to thank those great sponsors for their generous contributions. We appreciate you folks more than we know how to express.

“I have to say, it gave me a great sense of accomplishment to see a full field of KoM Late Models putting on such a professional display,” admitted series regional director, Rocky Estep. “I am very proud of our teams, our tracks, and the series. I knew then and there, the Suddenlink King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series had officially arrived! We’re only going to get better!”

This was the 2nd topless event of the season for the series. On May 27th, the Suddenlink KoM series filled Tyler County Speedway with 24 late models in what would also prove to be a spectacular show. Keep in mind 18 cars is a full field at both of these tracks.

On many occasions in 2007 fans have referred to the Suddenlink KoM Late Models as the best race of the evening. This race would be no exception, as the yearling series raised the bar once again. This race was a battle from start to finish from front to back. At some points there was 4 wide racing 2 and even 3 rows deep. “These cars are so evenly matched you really have to have your act together to make a move to the front,” explained series points leader Joel Prosser. “You have to bring your “A Game” to win one of these races!”

Chad justice stayed glued to the bumper of Jeff Maxwell, while Joel Prosser and Eddie “The Hammer” Hambrick banged fenders and swapped positions several times throughout the night. Meanwhile the battle for nearly every position in the field ensued. Keith Bills had a tire actually fly off his car while running 4th and sent him to the pits. He would later return but laps down and would take a big hit in the regional and track points battle.

Final results of the race were as follows:

On Saturday night at Tyler County Speedway, Roy Roush made his first '07 visit to 'victory lane at the Tyler County Bullring in the #Ra. Holding off a trio of past feature winners, taking the Sistersville Center Genesis Health Care KoM Steel Block feature.
Roush checked every advance as #11 “The Terminator” Mike Griffin in his Bob Evans Racing Engines powered Barry Wright stayed glued to his deck lid. Sonny Conley in the #1x1 M&H powered Lazer and Joel Prosser in the Miller Equipment powered #77 Rocket swapped the third position numerous times before Prosser wrestled the spot away for good on lap 16. The top 5 finishers were literally "under a blanket' as they crossed the finish line, with Roush scoring his career first Tyler County Speedway win. Griffin,
Prosser, Conley and the #38K Rocket of Gary Knollinger completed the top 5 finishers.
Griffin and Roush scored heat wins.

“The Terminator” Mike Griffin and
“The Racin’ Mason” Jeff Maxwell Take KoM Wins!

Apple Grove, WV. July 25, 2007~The King of the Mountains Weekly Racing Series continues to grow as our
membership reaches 44 members with 60 different drives having competed with KoM so far in 2007! KoM had 4 new drivers compete with us this week between 2 tracks. Most of our regulars reached their 12 th race this week. Now they begin replacing their lower scores with higher ones. This points battle is incredible. With 2 more double points races and several regular points races still to go, the “King of the Mountains” won’t be decided until our championship race, the “Crown Jewel 30“. We also will have 2 “Royal Knights” christened as the KoM Track Champs from both Beckley Motor Speedway and Tyler County Speedway.”

In Heat 1 Friday night July 20, 2007, Jeff Maxwell in the #04 Pro Power Performance powered Rocket once again turned on the after burners to take the win over 2nd place “Haulin’” Chris Holley in the #23 Mastersbilt. Rookie Brandon Carter brought home a very respectable 3rd place finish. Mike Allen who has been running the GMPP 604 Crate engine in his #21 Rocket the last few weeks was 4th. Newcomer Steve “T-Bone” Bays ran his first Late Model race ever in the #19 GCP Engines powered GRT and finished in 5th place after a brush with the turn 1-2 wall. Bays took over driving duties for Chad Estep (#18) who is away at school.

“I went from a 700 HP engine to a 400 HP engine and ran the fastest laps I’ve ever turned,” stated Mike Allen. “I wish I’d started the year with the 604 now.”

In Heat 2, David Gibson in the #32D in the David Home Services Mastersbilt made a strong run to take the checkers with the #25 Pro Powered Rocket right behind him for 2nd. “Cherokee” Joe Bennett also ran strong for 3rd in the B#1 GMPP 604 powered Rocket.
“Big John” Murphy ran 4th in the #20 Rocket while last week heat winner Rookie Aaron Barley rounded out the top 5.

In the feature it was all Jeff Maxwell as he led every lap in the #04 Pro Powered Rocket but behind him things got busy in a hurry. 3 and 4 wide racing thru the field the entire race was the rule not the exception. Once again nearly every position was challenged nearly every lap. “Champion” Chad Justice and “Cherokee” Joe Bennett had quite a dual going on while David Gibson in the #32D bobbled while running 2nd and ended up 4th. “Haulin” Chris Holley was charging hard and put his #23 Mastersbilt in 5th. On Saturday night July 21, 2007 at the Tyler County Speedway- “The Terminator” Mike Griffin took the #11 Bob Evans Engines powered Barry Wright to victory lane!!! Griffin turned 20 perfect laps in a spectacular display of poise and driving skill. “The Hit Man” Sonny Conley made an attempt to pass on nearly every lap but “The Terminator” does not scare so easily. “That was the first laps I’ve led, the first heat race I’ve won, and my first feature win in a Late Model! exclaimed Griffin in victory lane. “He (Conley) wasn’t going to just give it to me but I wasn’t about to just give it to him either!”

In Heat 1 Sonny Conley in the 1x1 M&H Engines powered Lazer led “The Roof Surfer” Joel Prosser in the #77 Miller Equipment Powered Rocket to the finish. Robby “Taz” Thomas had a strong run in 3rd in a homebuilt 355 Chevy powered #7 Rocket. Gary Knollinger in the #38K with another homebuilt motor brought his Rocket in 4th. Randy Gibson in the GMPP 602 Powered #X14 Rocket rounded out the top 5.

In Heat 2 “The Terminator” Mike Griffin put the #11 in victory lane placing him on the outside pole for the feature where he would jump out to the early lead and manage to stay in front of the pack. Randy Clark brought the #11C Ford powered Boss home 2nd in his best run in a few weeks. Tracie Sampson would bring the #12R Rocket home in 3rd in his first race back in KoM in a few weeks. “The Brainiac” Brian Rush running the GMPP 602 powered #X10 Rayburn would hold on for 4th and the #72 Miller Engines powered Rayburn of Matt Flesher would round out the top 5.

Although, Griffin nailed down the victory in the feature, the race was not without incident. Matt Flesher broad-sided the already side-ways #11C of Randy Clark in Turn 3 in a very scary crash. Both walked away unhurt amazingly but both cars were demolished. The action was definitely fast and furious in this one that would go down as yet another side by side, paint swappin’, ground poundin’, fight to finish. She’s A Doll!!! And The “Racin’ Mason” Take Wins in
the King of the Mountains Steel Block/Crate Late Models!!!

Apple Grove, WV-July 18, 2007~ It sounds like a horse race but Author Payne in the #12 “She’s A Doll” showed the way at Tyler County Speedway this past Saturday night while Jeff Maxwell the ”Racin’ Mason” took the #04 Rocket to the checkers at Beckley Motor Speedway on Friday.

Once again we dodged weekend rain threats and got 2 action packed shows in. It has become the norm to see 2-3 and even 4 wide side by side “you better bring you’re "
A" game” racing in the King of the Mountains Steel Block/Crate Late Model class. Both tracks had superb racing conditions this weekend and the “Knights of the Round Track” took full advantage.

On Friday night in heat 1 at BMS, new comer Aaron Bailey took his Ford powered Rocket to his 1st heat race win in ONLY his 2nd attempt ever in a Late Model. Eddie Hambrick brought his #45 GMPP 604 powered Rocket in 2nd right on his tail. “Cherokee” Joe Bennett in the B#1 GMPP 604 Powered Rocket nailed down 3rd while “Haulin’” Chris Holley brought the #23 Mastersbilt in 4th running a home built 350 Chevy. The #25 Rocket of “Champion” Chad Justice rounded out the top 5.

Heat 2 saw Jeff Maxwell in the #04 Pro Power Powered Rocket take the checkers. The #18 Pro Powered Rocket of T.J Salango and the “Under Dog” in the #36K GMPP 602 powered Rayburn swapped positions on several occasions along with a little paint and sheet metal to settle 2nd and 3rd. Mike Allen in the #21 GMPP 604 powered Rocket held on to 4th while “Big John” Murphy brought the #20 Rocket in 5th.

In the feature we saw Jeff Maxwell in the #04 take the lead and hold onto it the entire race and I do mean hold on to it. Maxwell had a bumper full Eddie Hambrick in the #45 in a duel that lasted the entire 20 laps of the feature. Right behind them another 3 way duel for 3rd, 4th, and 5th ensued with T.J. Salango in the #18, Keith Bills in the #36K, and Rookie Aaron Barley in the #28. These guys swapped positions sometimes 2-3 times per lap. Folks, nobody could take a breather in this one…every position on the track was being challenged nearly every lap in what some hailed one of the best races they have seen all year. After a late caution and a green, white , checkered finish, here how things shook out:

On Saturday night at Tyler County Speedway the Sistersville Center Genesis Health Care KoM Steel Block Late Models saw Greenwood, WV’s Arthur Payne make a silky smooth run in the “She’s a Doll #12. Arthur’s Doll weighed a whopping 2580 lbs AFTER the race! This night would prove to be another barn burner of a show.

In Heat 1 “The Hit Man” Sonny Conley took the 1x1 Lazer to the victory with “The Roof Surfer” hanging 10 right behind him in the #77 Miller Equipment powered Rocket. Robby “Taz” Thomas was burning up the track in 3rd with the X10 of the “Brainiac” Brian Rush fending off the #38K of Mike Knollinger to hang onto 4th.

In Heat 2 Arthur Payne in the #12 Chevy Powered Doll led the 57 of Kyle Thomas to the flag. The “Terminator” Mike Griffin in the #11 Barry Wright would bring it in 3rd. Brad Clark having a good run nails down 4th in the #11B Ford Powered Rocket. Billy Brown in the #54 Rocket rounds out the top 5.

In the feature Arthur Payne showed the way virtually uncontested in the #12 Doll. But behind him, it was anything but uncontested. The 1x1 Lazer of Sonny Conley battled series points leader Joel Prosser in the #77 the entire 20 laps. With only 1 caution in the event the action was fierce. Meanwhile the #11 of Mike Griffin, the #7 of Robby Thomas, and the #54 of Billy Brown would run side by side, swapping positions nearly every lap lap. The action was like that all the way thru the field. When all was said and done the complete results for the evening were as follows:
